For instance, car engines will develop leaks after a while due to worn out seals and gaskets. You should also check the lead wires and spark plugs to know whether they need replacement. A compression test will inform you of the condition of internal engine components.
Work With A Specialised Mechanic
The primary benefit of working with a specialised mechanic is that they can detect most vehicle problems at an early stage. Besides, the mechanic will inform you when to change major components such as the camshaft, alternator and timing chain.
Update Your Service Records
Update your service records after every service. The document should indicate the mileage at which to conduct the next service, the parts you changed and their longevity, and any repairs that you should consider before the next service.

Do Not Be Late For Service
Some car owners will add an extra hundred kilometres before going for service. This is a dangerous trend that could severely damage the engine. Worn out oil does not lubricate internal components. Therefore, these components will be under constant friction that could cause them to chip or crack. You will also notice reduced performance since the vehicle's air filter is probably clogged.
Do Not Mix The Oils
Use the right lubricants for your vehicle. Consult your mechanic or check the vehicle's manual to know what oils you should use. Most modern engines have a sophisticated working mechanism. As such, manufacturers will recommend synthetic or synthetic blend oils. High mileage oils are perfect for older engines. These oils contain unique additives that cleanse the engine and prevent oil leaks. You should also check the oil grade. Some engine oils are designed for cold temperatures while others work better in hot climates.
Do Not Use Counterfeit Parts
Use genuine OEM parts as you service your vehicle. People on a budget could opt to buy counterfeit products sold over the internet. These parts are not tested and may do more harm than good. If you cannot afford OEM parts, purchase used or refurbished parts from your local parts dealer.
When servicing your car, inspect the vehicle, work with a specialised mechanic and update the service records. Avoid being late for service, mixing the oils and using counterfeit products.
